Wendy Scherl – The Beat Goes On

     For one night only, Bistro and MAC award winning vocalist Wendy Scherl will make a rare East Coast appearance on Thursday, October 8th, 7pm at Don’t Tell Mama, in her exciting new show “The Beat Goes On.”  Although New York born and bred, Ms. Scherl relocated some five years ago to a quieter existence out West.  But, despite the locale change, that restless city beat has never abandoned her.  Instead, it’s only grown stronger and now provides some zesty musical ballast for this delightful evening of songs, both humorous and heartfelt, that she has culled from various cabaret appearances over the years, and from her award winning CD, “Wendy Scherl:  You’ll See.”  

     “The Beat Goes On” features songs by iconic pop writers as diverse as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the late Neil Sedaka alongside standards from Broadway, Hollywood and the Great American songbook all inventively arranged for Ms. Scherl by her acclaimed collaborators, musical director Christopher Denny and director Barry Kleinbort.  Cabaret Scenes magazine wrote of Ms. Scherl, “This is an artist well worth seeing.”  Distinguished songwriter and musical director David Friedman said, “She’s back, voice more beautiful than ever, singing with all the warmth and wisdom and humor that only a life well and fully lived can bring.”  For this very special one night event in the main room at Don’t Tell Mama, Ms. Scherl will be backed by a formidable trio of New York’s finest:  On piano Christopher Denny, on bass Tom Hubbard, and on drums, Ron Tierno.  Don’t Tell Mama is located at 343 West 46th Street, New York City.  There is a $20 dollar cover ($15 for MAC members) and a $20 dollar two drink minimum,. The room also offers its patrons a  dining menu. However, the club is cash only, no credit cards.
