Andrea Axelrod’s “My City” at DTM

MAC-nominee Andrea Axelrod returns to Don’t Tell Mama with My City, a new show reflecting her love of a vanishing, mythologized New York – her city — on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 7 and Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 3.
John M. Cook is music director, pianist and occasional singer in this celebration of Axelrod’s love/hate relationship with the city of her birth.
My City’s song list reflects Axelrod’s knack for finding unusual material, her roots as a classically trained singer, links between songs and personal history, and, along with Cook, ability to update lyrics.
The show includes several songs by Rodgers & Hart – Axelrod’s flagbearers for the New York she loves – plus: Leonard Bernstein with Comden & Green; Marc Blitzstein; William Bolcom with Arnold Weinstein and Arthur Miller; Hoagie Carmichael and (surprisingly) Rudy Vallee; Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields; Sam Davis and Randy Buck; Roger Eden, Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin; Peter Nero and Carol Coates; Burton Lane and E.Y.
