DESCRIPTION:After many years in San Francisco\, Diane D’Angelo has returned to New York — and to the Laurie Beechman Theatre with Closing Credits\, her second show since her homecoming!  Years ago\, D’Angelo found herself often the last person in the movie theater\, savoring the songs that played over the final frames. D’Angelo’s musical tasting menu includes songs from a wide range of movies\, from timeless classics to modern favorites like Working Girl\, The Shape of Water\, Lilo & Stitch\, and many more. D’Angelo’s ability to reimagine songs with her captivating vocals and dynamic performance creates a truly unforgettable experience. Directed by Lina Koutrakos\, with musical director/arranger Gregory Toroian on piano\, Tom Hubbard on bass and David Silliman on drums\, the show promises an eclectic mix of musical emotions. \nBroadwayWorld says\, “Diane D’Angelo is brimming over with a perfect combination of talent\, confidence\, sass and humor\, and an absolute mission to connect to every person in her audience.” \nA 2025 MAC Hanson Award Winner\, Diane D’Angelo has appeared on cabaret stages from coast to coast and around the world. In NYC\, she has performed at Arci’s Place\, Laurie Beechman Theatre\, Don’t Tell Mama\, the FireBird\, The Green Room 42\, Judy’s Chelsea\, and the Waldorf Astoria. She has played to sold out crowds at both NYC’s 54 Below and San Francisco’s Feinstein’s at the Nikko. D’Angelo is a classically trained vocalist who has performed for two former U.S. Presidents. She can be heard on the soundtrack of The Godfather III and has worked with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. As a soloist\, D’Angelo has sung the comic operas of Gilbert & Sullivan with the Lamplighters Music Theatre and the San Diego Comic Opera. She has performed at prestigious events such as the World Expo in Shanghai\, enchanted audiences on the Greek island of Mykonos\, and captivated festival goers at Burning Man with her role in the original opera\, The Daughters of Ishtar\, creating the role of Ishtar\, the Goddess of Love. \nClosing Credits \nThursday\, May 15 @ 7:00 PM \n(Doors open at 5:30 PM) \nLaurie Beechman Theatre \n407 W 42nd St\, NYC 10036 \n$30 cover + $25 food/beverage minimum \nTickets: thebeechman.com/events/lbt25-dianedangelo

SUMMARY:Steve Ross – Songs of Romance and Rue
DESCRIPTION:Steve Ross mines the treasures of the International Songbooks in this new collection. Classics from the pens of Berlin\, Porter\, the Gershwins\, Dietz and Schwartz\, Johnny Mercer\, Michel Legrand\, Lerner & Loewe and Noël Coward will be heard\, plus some newly-minted gems from contemporary American and British composers.\n\n\n\n“The suavest of all male cabaret performers.” ~ New York Times\n“…every lyricist’s best friend.” ~ Times Square Chronicles \n\n“When Steve sings\, New York is New York again.” ~ The Village Voice\n\nSteve Ross\, a Washington\, DC native\, was surrounded by music from an early age\, thanks in part to his piano-playing mother. After studying piano and attending Georgetown University\, a seminary\, and serving in the U.S. Army\, he embraced the Great American Songbook as his musical focus. Moving to New York City in the early 1970s\, Ross quickly made a name for himself on the cabaret scene. Initially a background pianist\, he was encouraged to sing\, developing a distinctive style that drew increasing acclaim. \nHis breakthrough came when Ted Hook hired him at Backstage\, later opening Onstage in 1979 to feature Ross exclusively. In 1981\, he began a celebrated run at the Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room\, helping to make it a cabaret landmark. He has performed internationally\, from Australia to Italy to Hong Kong\, and accompanied legends like Liza Minnelli and Ginger Rogers. Ross hosted cabaret series for both BBC Television and National Public Radio\, solidifying his reputation as an ambassador of sophisticated song. \nMonday\, MAY 19\, 7pm\nDoors open 5:30pm \nBIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB\n315 W 44th St\, NYC\nTICKETS: www.birdlandjazz.com/tm-event/steve-ross-love-songs-old-and-new/ \n\n$45.76 (including fees) + $20 minimum on food or drinks per person

SUMMARY:Miss Otis Regrets
DESCRIPTION:“Miss Otis Regrets” is a genre-defying solo cabaret show that blends vintage radio drama\, queer coming-of-age memoir\, American socio-political history\, and classic cabaret with sardonic wit and pathos. Framed by the haunting lyrics of Cole Porter’s “Miss Otis Regrets\,” the show begins as a fictionalized 1950s radio broadcast detailing the life of Carl Otis\, a sensitive young man navigating the dangers of queer desire in mid-century America. As Carl’s story unfolds—culminating in his exposure\, public shame\, and isolation—the narrative seamlessly shifts to the autobiographical journey of performer Francis Garner.\n\nWith musical interludes ranging from Arthur Schwartz to Sara Bareilles to M.C. Hammer\, Francis parallels Carl’s repression and marginalization with his own queer youth in the 1990s and 2000s\, tracing a path from closeted adolescent opera prodigy to disillusioned adult seeking authenticity. Wry commercial parodies and historical references (Eisenhower’s Executive Order 10450\, “Don’t Ask\, Don’t Tell\,” the AIDS crisis) lend political and cultural context\, while candid monologues and powerful musical numbers bring emotional immediacy. The show culminates in a celebration of self-acceptance and resilience\, underscored by a defiant hopefulness.\n\n(Thanks to McGrathPR for this write-up!)

SUMMARY:WENDY LUCK at Pangea's Wednesday Night Jazz Series June 11
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy Pangea Cabaret Room’s Wednesday Night Jazz Series – \nFeaturing vocalist/flutist WENDY LUCK! June 11 @7:00pm  \nTo make a reservation call: 212-995-0900 or send an email to info@pangeanyc.com \nAward-winning vocalist and flutist Wendy Luck\, is “adorned with talent\,” says Karl Stober\, of Ejazznews. “A consummate musician\, her artistic skill and grace shine through whether she is singing a ballad or a bossa nova… or playing flute on a jazz tune\, a choro\, or a samba…” (Randy Morse\, “The Best of Brazil\,” KZUM.) \nWendy Luck\, internationally recognized flutist\, vocalist\, composer\, performer\, and recording artist\, has concertized all over the world. Her diverse array of performances range from orchestral/chamber music at Lincoln Center\, Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall\, to lead vocalist/flutist with NYC’s Rainbow Room big band\, to original ensemble work at the Knitting Factory\, Roulette\, and The Kitchen and countless other clubs\, to recording her own compositions in Egypt inside the Great Pyramid and in the temples along the Nile\, to writing and performing her one-woman show entitled Aquatic Information which utilizes flutes\, voice\, characters\, and multimedia. With a number of esteemed compositional awards\, an improvisational ease\, and an ever-brewing love and proclivity for jazz and the avant garde\, she has performed with cutting edge greats including Ornette Coleman\, Don Cherry\, Eddie Blackwell\, Karl Berger\, Dave Holland\, Jack DeJohnette\, and Sam Rivers. Her 7 CDs include a Brazilian jazz album recorded in Rio\, a flute album recorded inside the Great Pyramid\, and an alchemy album of smooth jazz and classical music. Wendy has won numerous awards for her compositions\, and can be found in Scott Yanow’s book\, The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide. In 2012\, Ms. Luck became Dr. Luck\, graduating from NYU Steinhardt with a focus in performance and composition.  www.WendyLuck.com (http://www.wendyluck.com/) \n“A heartland girl that has conquered New York as well as the world with her flute and other talents\, takes it down to Rio for a breezy date that we’re simply a sucker for. With nary a Brazilian chestnut in ear shot even when covering Jobim or Djavan\, she holds her own down south with a crew of killer Brazilian cats behind her. Solid stuff that crosses the line from smooth jazz into that place where there’s something extra going on\, even if you don’t grasp it right away. A tasty find from a player that is equally at home with uptown cocktail hours as she is with downtown after hours that knows all the right moves.” ~ Chris Spector\, www.midwestrecord.com \n“Sultry\, sun-splashed magic!” ~ Jonathan Widran\, Rovi\, I-Tunes \n
